Did you cut your hair?

I did it, y'all. I rebranded.

With the help of the incredible Kristy Black (please check out their work if you're not already familar!), I've finally turned Golden Poppy Digital into something that looks and feels like what I want this business to be.

And you, my lovely newsletter friends, get to be the first to see the new fonts, colors, and general ✨vibe✨

Please bear in mind that I'm writing this newsletter while on Day 4 of The Cold from Hellℒ️, so if any of this is nonsensical, we're going to blame it on the DayQuil.

BUT.

We all know that this has been a long time coming, right? That the logo I made with the help of Canva and some delulu was not going to stand the test of time?

(It's all good. You can tell me you knew it was coming.)

After a year (!!) in business, I just felt like it was time for something new. But I'm a single mom! And I'm trying to run a business! And coach a softball team of feral 8-year-olds! And volunteer with Girl Scouts! And am apparently running comms for the PTA next year 😱

SO, as is dictated by my values, I decided to throw money at it. Because if it's not something that inspires you, and it's not something you want to spend time on, invest in help from a small business so you can reclaim your time, for yourself and your community!

The full logo reveal will be up on Instagram in the coming days, but when I tell you it is so thoughtfully crafted, so painstakingly detailed, so fucking VALIDATING β€” I mean, I know that I filled out like, a 30-page intake form to give Kristy the information they needed to make this happen, but it still somehow felt like they were inside my brain. (Like, to the point where I texted my bestie about it.) THAT is the kind of support and partnership that every small business owner deserves 🧑

So enjoy the sneak peek, and steel yourselves for the full reveal of Golden Poppy Digital: Autumnal Emo Edition πŸ€˜πŸ»πŸ‚

πŸ’¬ Facebook just launched an app that's basically a Reddit dupe, when they know full well all we really want is for them to bring the Facebook Groups app back 😀

πŸ€” LinkedIn is cracking down on AI-generated posts ... using AI πŸ™ƒ

πŸ“† Facebook has introduced a content calendar that lets you schedule and bulk-upload posts. I'm cautiously optimistic that this might actually be helpful for folks who use Facebook and Instagram as their primary (or only) platforms.

🚫 I generally avoid updates about Xwitter (because I generally avoid that site altogether) but this one has me giggling because they are now going to start limiting use for non-paying members?? The limits honestly don't seem unreasonable, but I'm more shaken by the fact that people are giving Elon Musk money to use a website he's all but run into the ground.

⭐ Threads has introduced animated stickers, but they're too small and I'm too blind and they bring me no joy 😭 Please just let me stick to GIFs.

πŸ€– Meta has expanded AI chatbots to Threads and when I tell you the platform is in an UPROAR! People are pissed as hell that they can't block Meta AI, and furthermore, if Meta so badly wants to create a "social" media platform where chatbots just talk to each other all day, they can do that without involving the rest of us, thx! ✌🏻

ICYMI, Maki the Intern (pictured above) made a very cute guest post on my socials where he talked about the four ways to work with me. (He's invested in me finding new clients because I tell him all the time how expensive he is.)

Anyway, here's how he described my work, in his own words:

⚑ Content Lightning Rounds

"This is where my mom talks to people on the compooter and helps them come up with ideas on wat to post"

🌱 Seed Package (Content Creation Support)

"This is where she makes content for people based on pictures they send her of their expensive cats (or other things too I guess)"

🌿 Sprout Package (Social Media Support)

"Mom says this one involves 'strategy' but I don’t kno wat that means, prolly her website explains it"

🌼 Bloom Package (Full Service Social Media Management)

"Mom says this is where she does everything so the people from the compooter don’t even have to touch Instagram (except to watch expensive cat videos)"

If you're interested in working with me (or in funding Maki's luxury tuna treat habit), let's talk! I know my adorably incompetent intern would appreciate your support πŸˆβ€β¬›

πŸ‘΄πŸ» My dad was in town last week and it felt like a weekend of non-stop activity! We got mani / pedis (or "Manny Pettys," as my phone calls them), we went out to eat, and he got LOTS of shopping time with the grandkids. I think my favorite outing was our Monday night trip to Costco where he made fun of me for loading up on bulk sunscreen, but listen β€” he taught me better than to go into summer unprepared 🫑

⚾ While my dad was getting 1:1 time with my oldest, my youngest and I went to Mariners Little League Day! The Mariners lost (badly, I might add), but we had a blast seeing friends, eating snacks, and running the bases after the end of the game.

🀧 I spent all of Memorial Day weekend cleaning my whole house, purging unwanted items, and breaking down boxes stacked to the ceiling in my garage in recovery from a cold, gifted to me by my oldest. (Kids are so generous!) So again, if anything in this newsletter sounds totally out of pocket, you can blame the meds. But also ... I need a do-over on my three-day weekend so I can actually make a dent in that pile of boxes πŸ˜…
